Interstitial Cystitis - Information and Treatment Options


Interstitial cystitis (IC) is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the bladder that can cause pelvic pain, feelings the need to urinate frequently and painful intercourse.

Causes

IC has no known cause but researchers believe that it may potentially be the product of:

  • Defects or nerve damage in the bladder
  • High histamine levels
  • Autoimmune response against the body’s own tissues and organs

Treatment
